It’s the Korea 38th anniversary commemorative coin. It’s dated 1991-D and I do not collect commemorative coins but this was in a collection that bought years ago and just got around to going through.

Interesting, I have a Korean medal as well from 1953, happens to be from my birth year and the last year of the Korean War! thumbupp.gif

It was a strange anniversary for that coin. Instead of the usual 25-year, 50-year, or 100-year, it was issued on the 38th anniversary of the end of the Korean War in 1953. I assume the reason for that is it relates to the "38th Parallel" which became the DMZ after talks ended the war.

The commemorative silver dollar was minted in Philadelphia ("P" mint mark, proof), and Denver ("D" mint mark, brilliant uncirculated). The coin shown is the Denver version. It contains about 0.77 troy oz of silver (net). They are currently selling for about $50 to $60.

Yes, it was the 38th parallel that caused the anniversary.
