Dad’s Root Beer was founded in 1937 and this was what they did to promote it. Need idea and what a collectible item to have in your collection. A Dad’s Root Beer Bottle Cap with a Cent from their first year of production.
I'm 78, and this is the first I've seen of these! Thanks! I just had to check it out on "the bay": https://www.ebay.com/itm/306214348250
I never saw or heard of it either until I saw these in a small collection, which I bought for a very low price.
Pretty cool, yeah I remember Dad's Rootbeer but I also remember A&W Rootbeer with the car hop ladies! Funny, as a teenager I worked at one but only when they got really busy, I had really good friends there, they had pinball machines that gave me hours of fun!
That's a neat find. I remember Dad's, Hire's and I worked as a teen at a Dog-n-Suds drive-in that specialized in root beer. But I've never seen this encapsulated cent in a bottle cap. Now for my questions: It looks like the cent is on the inside of the bottle cap. Does that mean that the cent was exposed to the root beer? Wouldn't the acidity of the root beer degrade the cent? And what about health and liability issues?
I remember Dad's, Hire's and A&W. Would sometimes get a root beer float back in the days when soda fountains still existed. Been decades since I tried a beer of the rooty kind. Mike
