Struck through capped die coins and clipped planchets ‘don’t get no respect’ in circulation. They’re almost considered non coins or junk by many who come across them. We know better
I remember the first clipped coin I ever bought was at a flea market and the seller lamented over how someone had cut it and rendered it worthless!!!
It is a capped die that happens when another coin is stuck to the die while striking and makes the obverse image all blurry. IT IS NOT PMD! get it GRADED and it could be worth a few hundred dollars!!!
just so you know, pmd would make the obverse and reverse all scratched up if it were a parking lot coin.
Meow is just taking a peek from under the couch and taking a peek here to respond to this statement. Meow is sure that this penny is a 1982 d as Meow is able to look at this penny very closely with varying degrees of light and many different angles. But Meow is unable to photograph what Meow can see due to certain colors or shimmers including details that seem to be unable to be picked up by the Catphone or consumer grade cameras Meow has. Also, the reverse has die cracks that have zinc rot forming on them. But that zinc/copper debate could be dispelled by weighing the coin, or maybe not as Meow is not sure that such a coin would weigh correctly due to the minting error. On a separate note Meow is CRH more pennies every day and just minutes ago found a blank penny. It is the second one Meow had found. Meow found the first one maybe about 4 or 5 months ago. Meow recalls some saying the mint gives those away, so they are not rare at all. But Meow would think that finding one in coin rolls would be a fairly rare occurrence. Also, about 3 to 4 months ago Meow found a silver war nickel in a penny roll. It is odd as heck to have a nickel stuffed in a penny roll. But then to find that is a silver War nickel on top of that. That might only be the 3rd silver nickel Meow has ever found. Meow hardly does nickels, but to find a Cats 3rd Silver War one in a roll of pennies is quite the thing Meow thinks. Anyway, Meow is going back under the couch. Meow seems to be poofy all the time from stress so will be attempting to sooth Meowself secured in darkness.
Those are cool finds! The silver nickel in a cent roll is especially unique! Keep sharing your finds as it is enjoyable to read about.
