Received an e-mail from Vault box for their latest offering, Dynasty Vault Box. They've got some real winners in this one, but.........................the cost is $1650.00! I've partaken of this program a couple of times, did very well once, not so good the second time, but still significantly ahead. $1650,00 is waaaay past the red line for my interest.
I'd sure love to have that 1859 proof set. I'd sure hate to blow $1650 just for a chance at it. I'm put off by the whole VaultBox concept to begin with, but this sure seems like one of their least tempting offers.
Are those 5 "red core hits" shown on their site the top ones and listed in descending order of value? 5th place instant offer is only $6000. I'm no gambler but that doesn't seem to be much payout for a $1650 raffle ticket, given the odds/risk. Presumably everything else is a lot less than that, but I don't see a full list like the previous offerings.
I think you have to check back at their website for the distribution list. The last one ($460,00) didn't have enough quality coins to risk that amount, but I can't imagine what kind of distribution list would merit a $1650 raffle ticket.
I ran the odds on this once as I was considering doing it but once you look at the odds of the high value wins compared to the low values its not so attractive but interestingly you can work out more or less what the promoter is grossing and its a lot. It's better odds than the lottery but absolutely no guarantee that you will clear your money, the math is also interesting when you take the top prizes and divide them by the boxes so its hundreds to one against getting your money back. It is an exciting concept though if you gamble but its like any gambling the odds are always in favour of the house. If these were cash prizes I do not think it would get off the ground but of course the bait for collectors is acquiring something that would normally be outside of their budget or an "exotic" purchase. I do get a lot of fun watching people open boxes though. I can think of better things to do with $1650 to further my collection.
I've generaly had good luck with vaultbox.. over all the ones i've bought into Most broke about even (4-5), 2 were real wins and one major loss. I've also tried a few of the other companys out there with mystery/rip it offers and those were all crap.. (worst being getting an ms61 22 peace dollar for $200 in a pack/box that was supposedly all "key date coins") At least with vaultbox, even the losing set I got I walked away with some nice coins even if I overpaid a little Most "raffles" or gambleing do not give you a consolation prize.. vaultbox does But I agree until I see the full distribution list this one seems about one of their worst offers yet.. don't think I'll be buying in this time.
I like vault box stuff but tend to buy what I want from them on the aftermarket rather than risking it. This ones way too high to risk it and I haven't even looked into it yet. It seems that they have a new release about once a month now. If it wasn't popular they wouldn't sell out instantly I guess. Have to believe some of these are more likely aimed at dealers who can at least write the purchase off as a business expense to somewhat lessen the cost. Some people have the money to blow on these. I'm happy for them.
Here's a link for those who like me were curious about the details. Mind you, when I say I'm "curious about the details", I mean only that. I will never be a buyer of this VaultBox stuff. But I was interested to read about it and wanted to read the fine print. If I'm gonna gamble, my maximum price point would be maybe 20 bucks.
This tidbit got my attention, found down here https://vaultbox.com/series-info/dynasty-2026/. "MSRP" as in "suggested retail price" implies that they'll be sold elsewhere for some other price. Last time as I recall there was another site offering them, was it APMEX? Like you, it's just an interesting development in the hobby. If I want a specific coin, I'll buy it. I'm never going to roll the dice to get a coin I probably don't even want.
Wow, I think this is the most expensive one yet for a single coin. I'm saving my coin funds this year for something special, so I won't be doing any of these. If any one does jump in, I'd sure like to see what you get!
I'm wondering if this outfit is just seeing what the market will bear. Their prices have been all over the board and I can see the price fluctuating depending on how many coins you'd receive (as I recall one offering was for 3 coins), but taking a chance for just one coin, why wouldn't the price be the same? Based on the distribution lists, the offerings don't radically differ.
I see the distribution list is not out on this one yet. Past offerings seem pretty consistent in that the worst you would do is about half your buy-in. Half the buy-in on this one is a dang nice coin, or it better be!
I reitterate the comments that it is an illegal lottery (but nobody cares). And the legal ones are a tax on people who slept through math class in high school.
