  1. I have listed 8 coins that are real graded coins that are now or were on the market. I want you to answer this based on your prior knowledge - no peeking :) on the web! I will reveal their prices 3 days from now. Have fun making up your mind!
You can also throw out some guesses as to the value of some of the coins if you wish.

Of course there are a lot a variables as far as eye appeal and such, but someone said the word "free" so I can't really make a bad choice, right?

I'd pick the 1897-O Barber Quarter. Key dates are expensive, but not what I would consider rare. I can pretty much guarantee that you'll see more mint state 1909-S VDB's at any given coin show than mint state 1897 Barber Quarters.

As far as most expensive, I'd guess the 1893-S Morgan Dollar.

@ElishaCollectsForever I call foul. You changed the rules of the game from the title of your thread to your first post.

The title says pick any of the coins for free.
Your post eludes to us picking the one with the highest market value.

I selected a coin that I wanted, not based on highest value. So which is it? I answered the poll before reading your post.

Your penalty, 5 yards for an offside infraction. ;)

    Hello! Pick me, pick me!!
I chose the '55 Doubled die obverse Cent.
WHY? I find it fascinating how it all happened and because my parents were married that year. o_O
BTW: What's the story that you'd heard how these occurred?? :D

  7. You're absolutely right, I guess I did change things up. Preferably pick what you really want,
But if you want to, go head and pick what will be the most expensive for free. I assumed that since I said "pick a coin for free" would mean a person would pick the most valuable coin in their opinion because you would get the most money out of that choice. This poll is just for fun. Throwing out values guesses would also be fun because I am revealing the value later. That's different from the poll, Pick what coin you actually want.

I'm throwing a coach's challenge flag on your penalty haha!

1955, because it is my dream coin and I have an idea of how much it is because I keep an eye on how much I need to still save to go out and get one. All of them are really something to be had as well. Regards, Mike.

Yes, I agree. Just be on the lookout for "fakes". There's plenty out there from here else? CHINA. Don't order coins from Walmart. Lots of stuff form there.
I too dream of owning a genuine one. ;)

Probably the Barber Quarter. Simply for the aesthetics.

  11. From what I've heard, there was a severe cent shortage in 1955, that was worsened by an increase in the cigarrete tax. The Philadelphian Mint was in such a hurry to create more pennies that an error was caused by a shift in the hub between impressions while making the obverse die. It's one of my favorite penny errors.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Well, I already own several of these in lower grades and I'm content with them. I wouldn't vote for a details coin if I didn't have to.

So, I guess I'll go for the St. Gaudens. I don't own one, and it is an incredibly beautiful design.

Somewhere, I don't know where. I heard there was a power outage when it happened. Not sure of the whole story though or its validity.

You did not include a buffalo nickel in the poll, so I’m taking my ball and going home.

Even though I could probably get a higher value, I chose the coin I would most want in my collection. Since I don't collect gold (I only have one gold piece, and it was a gift), the St. Gaudens is out. I DO collect Morgan Dollars, so the 1893-S is the obvious choice for me.

You can PM me, and I'll send you my address! Thanks!
