I picked up a nice new addition for my Type set:

I added a few more coins to the herd.

Trying to decide which to keep in the Type set.

That’s a tough call, because of the nice toning on the BN example. I think I slightly prefer the RD myself, but the BN is quite nice. I can see how it would be hard to choose one. (Nice dilemma to have, though.)

I have a personal pet-peeve with coins, and its about the rims. I absolutely can't stand when there is a rim hit that cuts into perfect circle of a coins frame AKA the rim.

I also have a problem noticing such damage AFTER I have purchased a coin. It's this really bizarre blind spot I have. I intentionally scan around the rim of every coin I am considering, but if there is something else I really like about a coin, for instance the blue toning on the BN coin above, well, somehow, I miss the rim hit that later will drive my nutty. I can't explain it. I try really had not to buy coins that have a feature that will later bother me, but yet, here we are.
Until I have the coin in hand, I wont make a final judgement. I mean, the massive TrueViews do exaggerate the size of flaws, so maybe this hit wont be so bad.

All this is to say, yeah, I'm leaning in the direction of the Red coin, even though I really love the overall look of the brown coin.

I default, when possible, to collecting the coin as minted, (as intended). I love toned coins, but given a preference for a set I will always choose a coin in the color as it came from the mint, since that is how the coin was intended to be.

Not sure if that makes sense, just my opinion.

Nah, it makes sense. That's one reason I like proofs. They're the best representation of how a coin's design was intended to look (under optimal conditions).
