Any idea what might be going on with this coin? Under magnification you can see thousands of what look like pin holes or tiny water droplets. Only on lady liberty, not in any of the fields on obverse or anywhere on the reverse. Not noticeable at all without magnification (I can start seeing them slightly at 10x). Looking at several other similarly graded coins don't notice this at all.
Theyre from a rusted die. They are referred to as rust pits. The coin is real and only some Morgans are gonna have these.
Thanks! I wasn't concerned about it being real, was just curious what was going on since I hadn't come across this yet. Read up a bit on it and it seems like it doesn't affect grading or desire of coins for the most part which is a relief since it's an NGC MS67 with like 2 total tiny hits anywhere else on the coin.
I was gonna ask you, if it was an '83 O, But now i would love to see the coin (both sides) if it isnt too much to ask? BTW, it doesnt affect grading and to some it may even add interest/value because of the cool factor
Sure have them handy, linked them in a different thread a few days ago. It's an 81-S (which I bought cause I wanted an MS67 in the collection and 79,80,81 and 82 S are by far the least expensive and most widely available MS67s especially the 81). I opted for this toned example over the blast white ones because I just really like the look and it was about $100 less than anything else.
