Look for the mintmark on your coin.

I have about 80 certified Seated ladies in my collection. I am hoping the virtual post will get to a few of my coins before i must leave. On the other hand, I never miss a chance to show off one of my favorite Ladies; my voodoo coin. I call my 1846-O Tall Date that , well, because I can.
She has minute scratches on her face and abdomen. I once read in a University of Tennessee about how Voodoo people used coins to curse people. 2 of the most popular curses involved trying to disfigure opponents in the world of love; or cause someone to be barren and or have a miss carriage. I figure my voodoo was going for both.
The U of T thing mentions the coins but fails to describe "how" coins were used. I had to create the "scratches" that can't be seen with the naked eye part.
Oh, and this is 1 of only 2 "details" coins i have. Weird but tru, the corrosion damage has left her with, what I find, to be beautiful steel blue fields and golden design accents. James

Not all of my Seated Ladies are American.

I think you got the 2 coins I posted middd up. The 1869 is Philadelphia and the 1865 is the S mint from San Francisco.

@mark_h . Congrats on your 1838 Seated Dime. 1838 is one of my favorite years. I don't know how indepth you go with your collection, but your 38 is a pretty rare bird. Almost all the Seated Dimes from that year lack shield detail of some sort. i have 6 varieties and still have not found my full shield coin. Anyway, sorry if this is old news for you; just wanted to point it out to others. James

I have missed that every time I looked. I finally looked with my 10x and saw it. Thank you. I thought time was supposed to make you Betsy coins but I’m going on the opposite direction.

Here are two of the first American Seated type coins. When I was kid in the 1960s, the No Stars Seated Half Dime was the coin no one wanted. The dealers would under grade them, whcih is very unusual, because the demad was surprisingly low. I once had a very nice VF-EF. I couldn't get a price that was even near the catalog for it.

This one is graded MS-66. I don't care if no one wants it because I'm not selling and not in the market for another one.

The first time, I sorta of completed a type set, this was the last coin I needed. By "sort of" I was still lacking the 1796-7 half dollar, which is a bear.

I probably should up grade this, but I have never gotten around to it. There is supposed to be a hoard of the No Stars Dime in Unc. I have yet to see that hoard or any part of it.
