This is a rare quack medicine device, made of tokens, a couple of beads and wire, incidentally Rulau wrote about it somewhere not sure where as I have it on a word document, I'll place it below. Anyways, I occasionally see one token on the bay but not the complete quack medicine device as it's rare, just sharing and if you have a quack medicine device to post about, here's your opportunity. Rulau notes that only two complete puzzles are known! J. Garst was the proprietor of Phenyo Caffein Co., a medicine manufacturer. Two trade tokens from this issuer form parts of this rare puzzle, Ma-WC 12 and 13. Both tokens are uniface brass discs at the end of a complicated assembly of wire loops, rings and wooden beads. One token gives instructions on how to work the puzzle, and the other is an advertisement for a caffein remedy: CHILIAN PUZZLE / REMOVE / THE RING / AND / PUT IT ON / AGAIN, and PHENYO CAFFEIN / CURES / HEADACHE / AND / NEURALGIA /PHENYO C. CO. / WORCESTER / MASS.
Wow, interesting! The vintage ad has a picture that is captioned, "My Girl & Her Mother / Do You See Both?" And you can tell it's one of those trick pictures. But try as I might, I can only see the girl, not her mother, in it. That's his trademark photo backdrop. I too have often wondered about it.
Squint heavily while looking. The mother's nose is the girls chin. The girls necklace is the mothers mouth. Z
Got it! Thank you. I could tell the girl's ear doubled as the mother's eye, but I couldn't make out the rest.
