Goldprice affecting numismatic gold coins? Also Aureus?

I know that for over 10 years ago low-graded Byzantine solidus' (normally 4 or 4,5 grams) was often sold for about 200-300 euro. Today they are sold for 550-800 euro.

The reason is clearly (or largely) because the goldprice has pushed it up.

I want to ask how was the situation with the Roman Aureus'?

I can see that low-graded Aureus' cost about 2200-3000 Euro.

How was the price for 10 years ago?

    Thank you.

I do not think so with solidi and aurei.

I do think it affects common gold coins though. For example
a AV Iran 10 Pahlevi are valued close to gold price. A Mint state one sold in 1980s for 450US today these go for 13KUS.
But an aureus 9g RR to 5.7g Diocletian hammer for 5K poor quality to 60K FDC.
    A MS-66 France 1810-A 20 Francs no, but a Napoleon 1855-A in VF yes.
In a nutshell high quality, rarities ZERO effect/ low quality gold YES:)
    BUT.......
If gold goes to 12K or more, we collectors are in for a bad time. I have 1500+ AV coins, I wish price would go down too 3K again!

I agree with @panzerman except for Byzantine solidi. High gold does set a new floor for reference for byzantine solidi, since they are around .14 to .16 an ounce of gold. At $5100 gold that is $714 to $816 in gold melt value. At 550 Euros that would be a pretty good deal.

I too wish gold goes down. I do not have nearly, (!) as many gold coins as panzerman, I do have probably 40 ancients in gold and maybe 30 ounces of US and world gold coins. I would like to buy more but not at these prices. For something like a gold Alex III or Sasanian gold, where melt value is not an issue, I will probably still buy though. I never really got around to collecting gold as much as silver. That market has me thinking, since I own thousands of ounces of junk silver and bars.

Just curious: Your Irene-gold coin is rare and at the higher end of price-range.

Can you tell me when and how much you paid for it circa? And specifically if the price for such a coin has increased today in comparision to before?

I know - as mentioned - that for 10 years ago average solidus' were sold for 200-300 Euro. Today the price tends to be 500-800 Euro. I wonder how about the expensive ones like the Irene gold?

I got it from CNG, I think just a few months after my daughter, (named Irene) was born. So, maybe 5 years ago. I think about $2800 plus commission or so. I haven't really looked at prices recently, since I only bought it because of her. This is the type with Constantine on the reverse. I would like to also get one with the family portrait and the one with only her on both sides eventually.
