Just wondering why many expensive coins graded by pcgs or other. For instance take a look at this dime, why wouldn't the owner have had it graded? From e ba y. Note what is written in the "condition " https://www.ebay.com/itm/168110027110?_skw=1916+d+mercury+dime+pcgs&itmmeta=01KFZR9T9QQ4H3J9MQER5F956V&hash=item2724237166:g:jQsAAeSw7QJpdk~B&itmprp=enc:AQALAAAA0O7PUuNWmJ++UShgI9tQz/r7w4mPb2euP1dfrGHGpMlzOH2XX3zDyk9/QdRA5lW3xVGdeBP8q6U2opNT/BbBW43VcoEjdC/CWsxC7Dsi8cXDA/0VAsLsMdNNACl8i/vNkQv4Q4eqPKkiiqTdXNwRHfmi78lEY6LyyupVRQfdSnnxVipl9NtyWgPKUkGzpgZgaA6wR4hHOXsK9xCJFM8Au06bfqA72J+XCPHA66mhhu1nbF8fOza0MDl89DCUFAs5--pRmlM9Bsmwe91lKrDVhlM=|tkp:Bk9SR4Clp_j_Zg&LH_Auction=1
I've noticed that many of Denver Coins offerings are raw. They have a good reputation, but I have not nor will not bid on a coin that is not in a holder, unless it is low value.
I wouldn't touch that. leave it where it is. The company I believe is known for juicing the photos. Hence the statement in the description. They are about 20minutes away from ANACS and could easily do a walk in for a key date coin. They obviously know there is a problem with the coin. Not saying it isn't real.... Well you get the jest of it.
Denver Coin Co. sells a lot of details coins. I think they don't have them graded because they can take advantage of people who don't know how to grade and/or are looking for "deals". The dime you linked to looks off to me. Like chemically altered or something. This Quarter has been cleaned. These light washed out fields can hide many a flaw. The reverse has three very bad scratches. These Washington Quarters they have for sale seem ok, but the images make them look like MS-67 or 68.
Yup, PCGS or NGC graded coins if I want to purchase something expensive. I purchased that 1926s Merc ungraded, "Pretty" coin it is, sent it to PCGS and it was returned in a holder ok, 91. "Questionable Coloring" . Learned my lesson, but it is a nice coin, not counterF anyway. So lesson learned. Ungraded + Expensive = NO
There are decent coins out there that are not holdered. I own some myself. But these folks have been juicing photos and passing off polished coins for a long time. I recently became a victim of an outfit that juiced photos. If it looks too good to be true then it probably is.
I've occasionally considered raw coins offered by this seller, only to discover that they'd been offered in details holders by other sellers before being liberated . . . whether by this seller or by others I cannot say.
