This coin tops all as far as the man's hat goes, looks a bit off kilter or maybe even a little quirky but I would never talk against anyone's culture besides, I like his hat! Maybe not something I would wear but different strokes is what makes this world a better place for all. Here's some quick facts on the coin, it's dated 1975 Bhutan 25 Chetrums coin (KM#40) features a diameter of 18.9 mm, a weight of 2.6 grams, and is composed of copper-nickel, wish it was gold but that would be out of my price range!
It is indeed cool looking. Curious, and wanting to see photos, I had to Google his "hat". It is called The Raven Crown. Here's an earlier King of Bhutan, Ugyen Wangchuck, wearing it in 1905. Image credit: By John Claude White - British Library, Public Domain, via Wikimedia
1950, ½ Rupee, Bhutan. Crowned bust of king Jigme Wangchuck. Minted in Calcutta, India. I enjoy coins like this one due to the fun of investgating where they come from. Numista # 9170
I’ve been a World coin collector for decades, but I cannot recall ever having owned a single piece from Bhutan, even in my bulk bag cherrypicking days.
I have had these three coins since the 1960's: Bhutan 25 Naya Paisa 1966 Copper-nickel, 19 mm, 2.9 gm King Jigme Wangchuk (1906-1952) Bhutan 50 Naya Paisa 1966 Copper-nickel, 24 mm, 5.9 gm Bhutan Rupee 1966 Copper-nickel, 29 mm, 11.8 gm Bhutan is located in the Himalaya mountains between India and China.
This is great, glad you looked it up, I'll have to read this link as I've been curious about it myself!
Bhutan AV 5 Sertums Note: This not mine, I have one slabbed NGC-PF-70 Too lazy to snap foto. Also have Platinum one Sertum in PF-70 Both coins cost me under 700US.
A collection of coins with cool hats suits you perfectly, milord... to pair with your fanciest of hats.
Now with gold at 5K+ and Platinum at 2800 they are going to cost you waaaaaaaaaay more then what I paid. Back when I was 20, I only could afford cheap stuff, so I save up $$$ to buy MS Turkish AV 500 / 250/ 100 Piastre st. and deluxe Kemal coins for $200 for 1.4 oz AV coins, ditto for BU Peru AV 100/ 50 Soles/ Mexican 1927 AV 50 Pesos/ now these "cheap" coins are $$$$$ One example a AV 10 Pahlevis cost me 450 2.5 oz gold. recently one sold for 15K Funny, back 4 years ago I wanted to sell 4 duplicates US Double Eagles to coin shop, he offered me $5K/ glad that I kept em/ now those 4 are worth 20K just gold value. I have never sold a coin. Thats why I have 1530 AV coins I am CASH poor, but coin (rich)
I like Axumite stuff (despite knowing very little about it), but last I checked, NGC would not certify them. The gold is lovely but I also like those bronze ones with the little gold insert in them.
