The Collaborative "Virtual 7070" Type Set Project

@Yankee42 - thank you for posting the Coronet cent. I got busy and forgot to post mine.

 

Another day went by when we were supposed to do the Braded Hair large cent (1839-1857), but I was sidetracked and forgot to update this thread. Looks like nobody else was watching, either.

Here is the best of that type I have owned. This one was PCGS MS63 BN, but it had a lot of red for a BN-designated coin.

 

Now we're about to catch up with where the Collectors Universe version of this thread is. Today, January 21st, we move out of the large cents and into the small cents.

Our next type for the day is the Flying Eagle cent (1856-1858).

Since I currently lack one in my primary collection (I want one), I will once again fall back on my "holey" type set and post the coin that's pinned to my cork board. Sorry to start us out on this type with an ugly-ish coin.




I once had a holed UNC details Flying Eagle cent. I paid a hundred bucks for it, and questioned my own sanity at the time. But it was a nice MS coin- except for the ugly hole in it.

The best problem-free example of the type I have owned was an EF45 example.

Here's a lower-grade unholed example I got for ten bucks and gave away in one of my giveaway contests.

PS- you say it's NGC, but I see a clear plastic insert there, not white. Sure it isn't PCGS or somebody else? I do not remember seeing an NGC slab with a clear insert or gasket before.

PS- an XF40 like @mrweaseluv posted is more likely to be within my budget, but when I do add a Flying Eagle coin to my type set, I want it to be at least AU50, because, as mentioned above, the best problem-free example I've owned in the past was XF45.

 

Welcome to Thursday, everyone. It is now time for our next type in the Virtual 7070 album.

This is the first of the Indian cents, specifically the Indian Cent Laurel Wreath (1859). A one-year type.

I currently lack a decent example of this type in my primary collection. I do have a holed example, but have no pictures of that, and the coin is at home pinned to my cork board, while I am at work right now.

I do not remember what the best problem-free example of this type was that I have owned in the past. Probably an XF-something. I have never owned a Mint State example.

We'll let someone else start us off on the 1859 Indian cent.

PS- "Fly Eagle"? Really, PCGS? You couldn't put three more letters (-ing) on that slab label? That's just silly.

 

Good album coin there, but I agree with the NGC grade (and the details designation, though I do not find the cleaning to be particularly egregious).

Not enough diamonds on the ribbon there for XF, IMHO.

I know what you mean about not wanting to cough up the money for an upgrade.
