A no stars SQL makes it a 1916 or a 1917. Low mintages rule out a 1916 so you have a 1917 type 1 SQL.

Typo- you obviously meant 1917, not 1927.

There ya go! Thanks. I knew there were diagnostics that can distinguish 1916 from 1917 Ty.1 quarters, even on dateless coins, but couldn’t remember exactly what they were. It’s useful having them in photographic form.

I dimly recall seeing someone (either here or on Collectors Universe) who was savvy at scrutinizing dateless T.1 coins with those diagnostics, and he had cherrypicked several 1916 coins that way.

Do you have clearer pics for Us? Try using your timer on cell phone when taking Pic maybe? I use a jar instead of books. Also, put coin out of holder on top of bottle cap.

I'm afraid that photo is way too distant, blurry, and out of focus for anyone to be able to say much about that coin.

Is this one better? I tried the book trick but it didn't work with my phone.

Look at the shield. Then compare to the @masterswimmer post. The shield is clear enough to show it’s a 1917.

Try to get a few more inches away and hold the camera steady when you snap the photo. Then go into your photos and crop the image as large as your phone allows. Then post it.

No expert, just going off the pickups posted by @masterswimmer the distinct wall lines also indicate 1917.

For phone images, try farther away and zooming in to find the sweet spot for your phone to focus. On my iPhone 14 around 3x gives me the best results. If I don't zoom in and hold the phone closer, it doesn't focus properly.

Is it me or do I see a faint 1917 near the date? No, I just checked with a loop there is no 1917 near the date.
