This was addressed quite extensively in other threads.

But note that Gold Bullion International did not over-strike existing coins. They privately struck virgin blanks and then marketed them deceptively and intentionally as official German Mint restrikes.

So please enlighten me on why your 1/2 ounce Peace dollar designed tokens that feature a likeness and similitude to U.S. coinage are exempt from a copy mark being that they don't have your go to defense of being over struck on actual U.S. coinage?

My goal is to make what I like, have fun making it, and product things that [some] other people like and want to collect. Making detractors "shut up" is nowhere on my list of priorities.

@green18 this last DC response only backs up my theory that he revels in the drama. The fact is, if he signed his work, it would not just shut up some of the detractors, it would shut down potential fraud and protect the hobby. But DC has no interest in doing that at this time.

They are clearly a commemorative issue related to the 100th anniversary of the United States entering WW1. That is clearly stated on the pieces. They are also larger in diameter than normal large dollar coins. The difference in diameter is large enough to satisfy the US Treasury regulations for denominated (circulating) tokens. These are not intended for "circulation", of course.

This Union fantasy is an official-looking coin but was privately minted and was endorsed by the Smithsonian Institution and NGC. Nowhere on it does it say "COPY" or anything else to indicate that it isn't an original government issue:

Well, not to tip the outhouse over, but Dan did state his reasons and I can respect that. So far, we've been mildly civil in this thread and I hope it remains so.

I might post my peace overstrikes for some ridiculous BIN price just to see, daddy needs a new exhaust system :)

First a disclaimer- I'm am not connected to Moonlight Mint or Daniel Carr in any way, shape or form. The only connection I have with him is I buy his medals.

Having said that, I think people have a lot of nerve trying to tell him how to run his business and whether what he does is or is not legal. I'm sure the same people who continuously butt into his business life would be the first to complain if he told them how to run their professional or business life.

The purpose of this forum is to discuss coins and currency, this is not a legal forum. You have a right to like or dislike the product he puts out, but you step over the line when you tell him how to change his business practices. Again, this tread is "Latest Daniel Carr restrike just arrived", not let's tell Daniel what he does wrong.

When I get the daily list of treads, I look to see if any concern Moonlight Mint. I like to read the posts concerning Daniel's latest strikes and If I see one I like, I go to his website and order one. Many of the coin magazines have columnists who state that they go onto various coin forums to see what the latest topics are being discussed. CoinTalk has been named as one of those forums. I'm sure other people, not necessarily involved with coins or currency, also check out the CoinTalk forum from time to time.

Again, I'm sorry, but I have to repeat myself. This forum is about coins and currency not what's legal or not. Come on folks- focus. Let's keep it civil.

Have I said anything about legal matters in this thread? Nope. Has anyone else? Maybe I missed it. And you say you want to read about coins and currency... well these are tokens. And you say you want to see a thread showing DC material? -There is one. It's called "Post Your Dan Carr Tokens (HERE AND NOWHERE ELSE)." It's in Coin Chat. Go have fun. To my knowledge no one has derailed it because that's what it is intended to be.

Larry, I love ya like a brother, but I think that Dans' issues ain't gonna amount to a hill of beans in the 'fraud future'. More to worry about fraud Morgans, Draped Busts, and Trade Dollars.

Since legality plays a large part of coins and currency, it is impossible to not allow it , even the term legal tender can define it. We do allow it within reasons, but limit it if it takes the majority of a unrelated thread. Any member can post on any thread or subject as long as it is within the rules. Most want to speak their minds on a subject,, which is possible as long as within the rules. Its a judgment call for the staff.

Yes, I'm aware of that thread, and I also read a posts from members that stated that just posting to that tread when discussing Daniel Carr was a restriction on free speech. That's why this thread "Latest Daniel Carr restrike just arrived" was created, to discuss the latest restrike the person received, but that topic was hijacked to discuss how terrible it was to make "tokens" or as I call them "medals" that some collector might mistake for an actual coin.

If you have the ability, go to one of the cable channels that auctions coins, land, jewelry, you name it. They blatantly misrepresent medals they make as "Pattern" coins from the U.S. Mint. They've even created their own grading service that strangely resembles NGC, I believe they call it NCG. As a matter of fact one of their on air coin people no longer is employed with the company. The word I got was he went to far and stepped over the line. That show would have a lot more public exposure than Moonlight Mint, yet the government has not chosen to go after them. Yes, there are people out there who don't know any better and may be fooled by people like those on TV, just ask any coin dealer who is asked to buy these "coins" that people buy from these TV shows or telephone solicitors, but I believe people are responsible for their own actions. I don't need government telling me things I should already know.

Anyone with any knowledge of coins knows that the elephant in the room is China. When a government not only ignores, but encourages its people to make counterfeit coins, that's a big problem, not a small businessman making tokens or medals that a segment of the collecting population enjoys enough to buy them knowing what they are.

While all this energy is being expended on a topic that goes nowhere and is guaranteed to never go anywhere, HSN is in the second hour of its its Overpriced Coin Bonanza.

That, friends, is a real problem for the hobby. If you don't believe it, wait until the suckers or their heirs try to sell their collections.

You suppose a single one of them will have anything good to say about our hobby?

Did you even read my posts? This thread was derailed by the "profiteers," counting their money and patting themselves on the back, making claims of how everything DC does is "guaranteed" to make money. They don't care about the tokens themselves, IMO, just promoting King DC and themselves.

And don't play the "free speech" card. All I did was suggest if you want a like-fest, then move along to that thread. It's nice and calm over there! You'll like it!

It's true. And already happening. Someone posted a thread here about a month ago overhearing a dealer letting down a little old widow who thought her husband had provided her a small fortune with his HSN investments. Sigh....

You young fellers are the best at getting threads shut down (and getting yourselves suspended). Feel free to call me more names.

What I want is a tread that discusses what the person who started the tread had in mind. Pro or con the discussion should be on the topic that the tread was created for, not to change it into something that has nothing to do with the original tread..
