    Orfew Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus

This first one I bought because it has a great Obverse portrait and a wonderful reverse. It also happens to be a Dattari coin. Most of these imho went for nosebleed prices.

Egypt, Alexandria. Dattari. Gallienus, 253-268 Tetradrachm circa 267-268 (year 15), billon 23mm., 9.51g. Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust r. Rev. Eagle standing l., holding wreath in beak; behind, palm. Geissen 2944. Dattari-Savio Pl. 273, 10547. Extremely Fine. From the Dattari collection.

    Naville Numismatics 29 February 26 2017 Lot # 438

The second one will join my historical figures collection. It is a denarius of Cato the Younger. It is also a pedigreed coin. It is from the E.E. Clain-Stefanelli collection

    M. Porcius Cato. Denarius Africa 47-46, AR 18mm., 3.57g. M CATO PRO PR Draped female bust r. Rev. Victory seated r., holding patera. Babelon Porcia 9. Sydenham 1052. Sear Imperators 46. RBW –. Crawford 462/1c. Old cabinet tone. Banker's mark on obv.; otherwise About Very Fine.
From the E.E. Clain Stefanelli collection.

Congrats. I was blown out of the water on all of my Dattari selections but picked up one non-Dattari tetradrachm. The auction is still in progress and there might be one more bid for me :)

Those are both sweet pick-ups, Orfew ... congrats

Hmmm, all I have for Gallienus Eagle Tets is this ol' go-to example (I'll try harder to score a new Alexandrian Gallienus in 2017)

Yes, the Dattari prices were impressive... nice catch! Also on the Cato. I bid on that. :panda:

    I scored a non-Dattari tet - Sev Alex, year 2 (222-223), Tyche reverse. I liked the portrait:

Aww man, you're hurting my feelings :( ;)

(I've posted many ex-Dattari coins in recent months)

Here's an ex-Dattari I don't think I've shown yet. It's nothing noteworthy from a condition standpoint but I avidly collect coins of Serapis in all his incarnations and combinations.

Sorry, I would not have bid against you had I known that. I do not like bidding against my Cointalk friends.

    Hi @TIF

If its too much trouble just say no, but could you please take a picture of where my coin appears in the Dattari catalogue? I tried the online version but could not find it.

My interest comes and goes, considering I collect so many things. I didn't check in much last year and just started again this year. Sorry if I missed your threads...

Carausius Brother, can you spare a sestertius?

I managed to snag two ex Dattari coins today, a Hadrian and a Diocletian, though I really should have let them go. Fortunately for me, I also sold a coin at retail on Forum today and my net will just cover the new Dattaris! Here are the new additions:

By the way, I was having a lot of connection problems with the Naville auction today, and the connection issues prevented me from bidding on several lots that I wanted. Did anyone else have connection problems? I wonder if it was my server or Naville's that was to blame.

@TIF I thought of you as I waited a looooooong time while the Roman Prov. coins were sold. There were plenty of odd animal reverses. I wanted one RR bronze over-strike. Alas, I only wanted it second most. I did find one interesting coin, posted in another thread.

Was that the Triens overstruck on Hieron II poseidon/trident type? I was surprised how strong the bids were on that, especially given that the undertype was not listed. I considered bidding on it as well but I didn't quite like it as much as the winner did either.

I bid in advance on that cornear Triens overstrike, but the connectivity problem I mentioned above prevented me from bidding live. What did it sell for?
