Hello all, just wondering where i could sell, ( or consign if necessary, ) my entire collection. Without going into too much detail, I have mostly modern, ( some world,) earlier U.S., and a few nice " special " sets. Just trying to get an idea of the easiest, trustworthy place, or person, should I decide to sell it all at once. Any helpful suggestions are greatly appreciated. I'm located in northern il. P.S. I have a few ancients that I will never sell due to their sentimental value. ( some were gifts to my S.O. from members here. Those are precious to me. Thank you guys for the treasures, and memories.) Thanks in advance. John.
There are some of the folks in here who have handled consignments for people, check their references. If I ever decided to liquidate the collection, I would shop it at some of the big shows, the reason being that there are many dealers to get offers from. Heck I might even set up at a show myself in order to maximize profits.
Hi, John! From your description, "mostly modern, some world, some US and a few special sets", it doesn't sound to me that your collection would draw a lot of interest at auction no matter who you consigned it to. You might want to try to shop your collection around to some of the B&M's in the Chicago area to get an idea what it might be worth. You'd want to take the collection with you, not just a list, because you're likely to get lower offers if the dealers don't get to see the coins. Chris
I would personally piece things out to where I thought they would do the best. The problem with the all in one approach is you may have some things that would do considerably better in one place over another. eBay is likely your best bet for Modern and World unless you have some top pop business strike moderns.
If you want to get rid of them in one fell swoop, and know if you have some worth decent bucks, I would approach a smaller coin shop that might want to build up their inventory. Good luck.
eBay is a lot of work, and full of scammers. I think just taking it to a coin shop might be the best plan, especially if the goal isn't necessarily to get top dollar.
Not if a lot of his moderns are common stuff. He might be lucky if they sell for face value or such a low price that the fees eat up any profit. Chris
Since he has indicated his desire to sell or possibly sell his collection, no he cannot do that in the regular sections of the forum - as per forum rules. He could however post pictures and or a list in the Advertising section, but that's the only place he could do it. Now then, John, your best option, by far, to sell a collection such as you describe is to simply take it to a local coin shop and sell it outright. Or if you don't have a local coin shop then find a dealer on-line, contact him and ask if he would be interested in a collection like yours. Now I'll tell you in advance, most will say no they are not interested in a collection like that. This is because coins in a collection like you are describing are far too common and most dealers don't even sell the stuff. But it is still your best option to go that way. Why ? Because it is a ton of work, and requires a lot of time, to even try sell stuff like that on ebay ! And by the time you are done paying fees and selling at reduced prices you'll end up making roughly the same amount of money as if you sold the collection outright to a dealer. This same scenario plays out for other collectors just like you, just about every day, over and over and over again. I'm not telling you this to discourage you, I'm telling you this to get you realize the reality of the situation.
Thanks to all for your time, and options. Perhaps I should have wrote modern monetized bullion, such as A.S.E.s, or Britannias, Maples, etc... almost all is silver, with some gold. My reasons for even contemplating selling is that I keep all but a couple, in 2 large S.D.B.s, and are a hassle to see, and my bank is raising prices on them, and according to one of the managers, they want to do away with them altogether. So, I am reduced to just looking at pictures of them to avoid the hassle. Well, I can look at pictures of coins all day long for free. Add in the fact that I am losing interest in "collecting", ( but not participating in this forum ) and could, and should use my funds for more practical things. At last inventory check, I had over $15 K ( My cost ) wrapped up in this collection of coins, and P.M.s. I didn't buy them as an investment,( mostly ) rather, I liked, I bought, period. Of course some I will make a profit, some, I will no doubt lose money on. That's to be expected. I still enjoy coins, and the history, just tired of spending money on them. Speculating on P.M.s, is not for me, although I own some $300 gold. Anyone remember that, from back in 2000 ? Silver would have to go back up to around $20 per oz, before I could see any profits. ( My average purchase price was around $17 per oz. ) for rounds, and bars. I know some others here have stopped collecting also. I would like to hear the reasoning for their departure, if willing to share. ( @GDJMSP ) anyway, was just looking for options, should I decide to sell. Maybe just do a major reduction instead. I just don't know right now. I could keep rambling on, but I'll stop here for now. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and for the comments. P.S. @kaosleeroy108 , not gonna happen anytime soon, sorry. John.
May I inquire about what's in your tea ? Is a "collection", not an investment. There is a difference. Although you can either make a profit, or lose money, you can't do either without selling it first.
I understand that and thanks for the advice, mountain grown natural teas from China ,India , Japan and a few other places... I'd prefer to make a profit ... pm me your address I'll send you some .. Sent from my C6740N using Tapatalk
Just how much profit are you going to send me . Lol. Thanks for the offer, but I'm a coffee guy. Do you have coffee ? Can't remember the last time I had tea. I know it's much healthier though. Can you provide a link to your website ? Might just try some. Thanks again.
Warning it's a work in progress, although not everything is listed, I do carry coffee but not listed... TheMahayanaTeashop.com Sent from my C6740N using Tapatalk
