Hi. Per a suggestion by user "creg" on Collectors Universe, I'm starting another group participation thread over there (so why not here as well?)

He wanted to create a "virtual collection" where we'd all work on the same set together- virtually. I suggested the ever-popular Dansco 7070 Type set.

Here's how it works. Each day will be devoted to a slot in the album (one particular type, in other words), and we'll do them in order. So on the first day we'll all post pictures of our Draped Bust half cents, on the second day we'll all post our Classic Head half cents, then we'll do Braided Hair half cents on the third day, and then on to the Draped Bust Large cent, and so on. Get the idea?

There are 83 types to complete the album.

Each day we can award unofficial bragging rights to the person who posts the nicest coin, and also to the person who posts the nastiest coin. Anything from junk to Gems is OK, as long as it is of the correct type and has a readable date.

    Ready? Let's go!

I'll start with our first type slot in the album: the Draped Bust half cent (1800-1808).

Here's mine. Post yours! Then we'll all do the Classic Head half cent tomorrow.

PS- everybody try to post both sides of your coin, if you can.

You never know- at the end, someone might get ambitious and want to create a virtual album of all the best coins shared, or something.

(That person won't be me, though.)

Welcome to Thursday, everyone. It is now time to focus on the Classic Head half cent (1809-1835).

The only coin of this type I presently own is a holed example, in my casual "Holey Basic 19th Century Type Set" corkboard collection.

Here is a picture of the corkboard collection from last January. I think the only coins I lack now are the Barber Half, the Seated Dollar With Motto, and the Trade Dollar. (Oh, and I can't remember offhand if I bought a holey 20-cent piece yet or not.) So as we play along with this virtual 7070 type set, I'll be falling back on my holey collection for the types I don't have nice examples of.

shows mostly on the reverse but you can see the light and dark patches.. not quite bad enough to call corrosion and since it's lighter then the patina you can't call it staining.. so enviromental damage it is lol

    Nice one!

Do I have permission to make a digital type set using everyone's photo? I'll acknowledge the posters and label it as cointalk special or something along the lines

ABSOLUTELY! I was half-hoping some energetic person might do that. As I said above:
You will of course face the issue of varying photo quality, but so what.
