Sorry to hear you lost out. Curiosity has me, what was the final bid? It could be high because of it's scarcity, or low because there aren't many who know what a Repousse coin is.
I thought I would add these pictures so you know what the patent bar looks like and the dates, both Malliet and Keppler. These are from my collection but I don't post everything when I obtain coins, especially exonumia. The value is higher when the patent bars are present. I would be more than happy to help anyone interested in this field.
Nice images. I learned a lot from you at Fun about these. I think we both wanted the one the nice dealer showed us in the binder. Wish he was willing to break it up and sell just the one.
It was a case of all or nothing at all. If he would of sold the one piece, we would have to flip a coin to see who would be the lucky buyer. Sounds like the right thing to do at a coin show :>)
That would have been fun but I would have let you have it and bought the drinks at the end of the day. I feel blessed to just hang out with folks with your knowledge.
I see his son is looking to research an possibly publish an updated version website a go fund me page and a facebook page
Thanks for the information. I gave my contribution in hopes of his son's success. Getting a copy of the book as a benefit, certainly makes it worth while. Larry, (ldhair) I wish I had half the coins you buy at the shows in my collection. I haven't seen one that isn't top notch.
Picked up a nice repousse Barber quarter the other day and thought I'd share since it arrived today. It's a bit hard to read the patent date, but it reads NOV.22.904 (meaning 1904).
