Wonder if PCGS would certify this? Lol. At a museum in Pigeon Forge, TN.

That's actually really cool and something I'd be happy to own. I'd prefer to have the detonator though...

Gotta just be a relatively small charge. Nothing that would incinerate, right?

Haha, they wouldn't need the ink if it incinerated. I imagine the wad of bills it was stuck in probably got burned or obliterated.

These packed a pretty good punch....and the ink well let's just say it was just about a permanent reminder of a temporary feeling :meh:

Dad as a Federal Reserve Agent would have to destroy the packs after the conviction. The outer notes were real back in the day with their serial number tagged as well.
One has to remember that yes they got a dye pack but they also got packs of notes. When the dye pack went off everything was coated with ink . As destroyed notes can be replaced, as stolen notes not as likely . Unless the serial numbers were kept.

Each branch bank had an incinerator to burn money pulled from circulation .

I assume 395 degrees Fahrenheit is enough to burn a bill but I could be wrong. Also, I may have confused my personal experience with detonators with the tiny ones used in these packs. Thanks for the share.

I noted that they showed an image of an exploded dye pack, and while there was some blackening on some of the notes, I can assume that the high temperature of the explosion was not sustained long enough to completely burn the notes.
