I stopped by my local coin shop today after work and as I walked in he was shaking the hand of an older woman and her late teens early 20's son. They left and I asked him what was up, he proceeded to tell me that the woman's husband had passed on about 15 years ago and she found some of his coin collection in the garage. So she brought it in, he gave her a fair enough price and they both left the transaction pretty happy. Boy was he in a mood, so I picked through some barbers and came across this VF/XF nicely toned little 1900. I asked him how much, he looked at it and said $2. I was floored!!! Here it is, what do y'all think? Good deal? :mouth::mouth::mouth::mouth::mouth:

haha, my secret, plus I drop a lot of money there, so this was probably more like a good customer bonus, it is easily a $15-20 coin

BQ - he's got you hooked now! The next time he sees you getting close, he'll have his 80 year old Aunt Clauidia come in and pretend to sell all her Trade Dollars. And then he'll turn to you................................

That's a nice coin and price. You don't see that every day -- a dealer making a seller and buyer happy on the same day with the same coin.

Ok, I'm going to break Forum decorum....

Is your Avatar from the NBC series Earl? Or is that you?

And if it ain't Earl and it ain't you, who the heck is it?

And of course, you don't have to respond, since I am apparently Mickey Mantle

The old $20 coin for $2 trick. That's a classic in the sales business. You give a customer a great deal on one item, while you slightly over charge him on the next 5-6. It will all even out in the end. It sounds as if it had the desired response. The response that the seller wants is the customer feeling overjoyed and can't wait to show all his friends and talk it up. This will not only generate a lot of attaboys down at the barbershop but the customer will most likley head back to shop in less time than normal to spend a few dollars.

Everything a seller does, he does for a reason. Nice guys are only nice to a point ...lol The point of paying the rent. The ones that can make you pay more with a smile on their face are the ones that are nickel and diming you. It will all even out in the end but it sounds like he made you really happy with that sale. Most likely with the profit made of the purchase of the womans coins ...his cost was minimal if anything at all.

    A nice quid pro quo.

It will probably all even out, but I don't mind he is one of the more personable dealers I've shopped at in the last 5 years. Being military it is hard to make a working relationship with a dealer.
