Very cool piece by a very talented artist. Fascinating history that changed the world. Karl Goetz also produced several pattern designs for German coinage that were never adopted. Some of his designs were really lovely. I'm fortunate enough to own a pattern of his and it's my favorite coin in my collection.
Yep, while most of Goetz's medals are pretty bad political propaganda, his coin patterns are better. After all, he was a creative and skilled designer, and even his worst "minted cartoons" usually are technically well done ... Christian
Just realized do all the copy/original have an error on them? Lusitania was sunk May 7th but every medal has it as May 5th.....
Have a look at the earlier posts in this topic, and/or at http://www.lusitaniamedal.com/ (the "Medal" and "Varieties" sections) for example. Christian
Lusitania had been officially requisitioned by the Royal Navy as an armed merchant cruiser in 1914. She was also, Millennium Falcon style, fitted with secret compartments to surreptitiously carry arms and ammunition. Legally, she was a legitimate target anywhere outside a neutral's territorial waters, and anybody choosing to travel on her into a defined military exclusion zone was responsible for what happened to him.
I think that I saw this original at the Chicago Worlds Fair of Money in 2014. It was featured amongst many WWI MEDALS. I took many pictures. but if you want I can try to find them. Great coin. "History is planned, not made"
Well, I finally found the WWI medals, they are beautiful pieces of art along with some really nice workmanship.
This arrived today. It's a British version of the medal, of course. It's a bit chilling to hold this piece of history.
HI everyone, Im new here. I have been finding coins for decades and selling them as I get them. I dont know much about coins. I am getting more interested though. My member image is of an 1875 argcultural medal for best sheep so I thought it would be cool to use as my image. BUT I also found a lusitania medal with some original ad for it from an old paper being sold my a military personal from a US base, not sure how that helps with the coin. it looks brass or bronze. Were these coins cast or stamped? Im guessing cast because the originals seem to all have very small air bubbles from the casting process. ANY help please post, thanks GRANT!

Looks like you forgot to add photos. Click upload a file and share with us what you have. It sounds like you have a British reproduction from what you're saying.
