Hello everyone, I hope this doesn't turn into anything politically negative. I'm always praying for peace! Last year I met a young man who started visiting our congregation. He is smart, strong and hard working. He is Venezuelan and his dream is to become a police officer. I took the responsibility to represent him to become a US citizen. I even appeared before a judge to show my full support. He is doing very well. We spoke this morning on the current events in his country and he is absolutely thrilled! I dedicate this thread to him. A 5 Bolivares silver (.900) coin. Nice one. Venezuela had been minting coins like these in silver since 1873. Coins dated before 1925 are sought by collectors. After 1936 the composition changed from silver to nickel.
Here are the only ones in my collection that I have pictures of. The last one I actually sold a week ago or so. With the price of silver I wanted to dump a few coins that weren't especially meaningful to me.
I worked in scientific research my whole life and nobody ever gave me anything. Maybe you could do something to help people in the US who also came here and are working in scientific fields for very little pay? Specifically my field was developing new ways to generate electric power: specifically fuel cell technology. But there are other considerations as well. Now it's nice that you helped that Venezulean guy but he actually may or may not be nice. The Father of my Ex's cousin was walking out front of his house 2 years ago when he was killed by a Venezuelan immigrant who was racing on a residential street. The guy did not stop after hitting him but kept going until he was caught by the police. He may have said he was a wonderful person but it's his deeds in long-term that show the veracity of what he says.
I understand your concern. I do keep in touch with him to make sure he's doing well in his jobs and education. So far there haven't been any negative activities. He visited our church yesterday for the first time in 2026 and he was more than thankful for all the help he has received. I also met his new girlfriend and I wished them well!
Seems like most of our car-racing deaths around here have featured homegrown talent. The only Venezuelan immigrant who's attracted my attention is the guy I mentioned in my earlier post, and I'm really hoping we can keep him.
