Hello everyone, I wanted to create this thread before 2025 ended but I have been dealing with taking care of family issues and just a bunch of stuff at work. I do post every day but simple threads on other items This one has a bit more information so it took some time to create it Here are my Metal Detecting US Constitutional Silver Coin finds total for 2025. NYC Parks Silver War Nickel - 5 Seated Dime - 1 Barber Dime - 1 Mercury Dime - 16 Roosevelt Dime Ag - 15 Washington 25 Ag - 5 Standing Liberty 25 - 2 Walking Liberty Half - 1 Total = 48 Rock Hill, SC Event (Seeded Hunt) Mercury Dime - 24 (2 not pictured) Roosevelt Dime Ag - 19 Washington 25 Ag - 7 Standing Liberty Half - 1 Total = 53 Rehoboth, Massachusetts Event (Seeded Hunt) Mercury Dime - 2 Washington Ag - 1 Kennedy Half Ag -1 Total = 4 Grand total - 105 And I have only top 2 coins this year compared to 5 in 2024 Seated Liberty Dime - Walking Liberty Half (NYC) And I guess I can add this a top moment in 2025.. Another win of a Metal Detector during the Rock Hill event. It was the 3rd detector won in the past 3 years BTW - The guys in our Metal Detecting group don't count the seeded silver finds as part of our yearly totals to see who found the most. But I still beat out 4 other guys with my 48 detected finds in NYC
Congratulations on a great year now you get to look ahead, good luck. Thanks for all the sharing. Bah-Hum-Bug, I'm jealous.
Honest question. When they seed the park or area being searched, do they meticulously note where they are placing the coins? I don't know how many times my kids found an egg during the Easter Egg hunt that was from a previous year.
Congratulations! As you probably already know, I started late last year (2025). Not much found except this key to what I believe belongs to a treasure chest!
Great question. They do not note the location of the seeded silver coins. There are thousands of them. It is a huge open field that is seeded the evening before. They have a few people from their team do an all-night vigil to secure the area, so no stray metal detectorists go and try to get a head start on finding coins. On the last part of the event the 100+ contestants all stand at the perimeter of the field with the metal detectors held up in the air. When the host sounds his air horn or sets of a skyrocket the event starts and we put our "coil to the soil".. We have an hour and a half to detect and keep the seeded coins. There are normal clad dimes with counterstamps of numbers on them, 120 exactly. Those are to redeem the bigger prizes back at the main event tent. When the prizes are redeemed and the event ends we are allowed to go back to the seeded field to keep searching. I am sure not all silver coins are found and could be buried until the following year.
