Does anyone have any info on Gold Standard Auctions ? They have a few coins I've been coveting but at a hefty price. Normally I would inspect any coin I plan to spend more than $200 (except for a couple auction houses I've been dealing with for years), but the distance to go is prohibitive.

Yes.... I recently made that mistake. They juice up those photos. I won about a half dozen coins from them 4-5 months back and every one was cleaned and/or polished. Their descriptions are very misleading.... "newly uncirculated" or "closely circulated"... Gobbledygook descriptions designed to mislead you into believing that the juiced up photos are quality coins..... I bid on six coins. I put in a max bid for each coin and miraculously, each coin was won at exactly my max bid. They don't shoot straight. Bad news all the way.

Thanks. Yeah, I was kind of wondering about the "closely" or "nicely" uncirculated terms. I thought it might just be their eccentric way of describing a coin. I'll certainly take your experience under advisement.

I tend to go in on some local auctions and as a result I get flyers from other auctions. The Gold Standard flyer was a glitzy one and caught my attention and I do try to be cautious in this day and age. But they sucked me right in and all I want is for others to learn from my mistake. You just don't have six coins magically bid up to your secret max price. Their are a lot of good coin auction houses out there but Gold Standard is not one of them.
