Putting myself together a little stack to sell at FUN for walking around money. This is one of my earliest gold coins. Folks, this one is hideous. So much so that I am embarrassed to offer it. With gold being so hot should I take it in hopes that I can find a buyer?

Yes. Sell it. What's that's red color around the perp?

Honestly, I couldn't say with any certainty. I was once told that the copper in gold coins will oxidize red. Best I could figure.

I wouldn’t sell it just yet. I’d wait until later in the year when gold is higher and it will be higher.

If you feel like gold still has legs, but you're worried you might miss a good opportunity to sell it at the FUN Show, you could sell it to Rarcoa and put the proceeds into another gold coin you like much better. They'll buy most anything . . . at a price.

Never heard of them before. Had to look them up. Was just hoping I could score something near spot for the worn out old eagle. I am pretty satisfied with my gold holdings now. I almost couldn't shut the lid on my SDB yesterday. But if I could get close to 2k for it from somebody at the show, that would make for some decent FUN money.... And I wouldn't have to look at the ugly old piece any longer.

Gotta agree, the only way I would sell it at FUN is if I was completely broke! :cigar:

Their 15 minutes came from the Apostrophe Auctions that started in 1979. I had their first catalog. It was really nice.

The gold is bullion value and will be easy to sell at FUN if you would rather put the money elsewhere.

Take it to FUN and see if you can get a satisfactory price near spot, maybe 2% less?

It only weighs less than an ounce so it won't really burden you down much.

Yes I would. That would get me a long ways towards a high quality seated twenty cents. And that would complete my high grade seated type set.

Rarcoa’s buy price for a VF was $2085 yesterday. Yours is a bit on the homely side, Randy, but I think they’d still pay you at least $2050 at current spot.

That's competition for me at the show. I'm looking to upgrade my NGC MS-60 piece.

I've talked a lot about buying nicer pieces instead of junk while "premiums are compressed" due to rising bullion prices. But I have a special place in my heart for coins like that one.

It looks like it spent some time as a pocket piece. I'd be tempted to get it for that myself, except that I've had exactly zero luck accumulating visible wear on pocket pieces so far.

If you find your upgrade, come see me with your MS60.
