How would you judge grade and value for this coin? I'd say that, aside from the damage, it was a VG worth $20 or so. There is a deep dent on the obverse right and a smaller round dent on the forehead. Reverse has corresponding lumps but much lighter than on obverse. The coin looks like it may have been buried from the pitting on it. I paid a whole 99 cents for it so say what you will. It'd be nice if it still comes out as a Good/$10 but, whatever, it'll always be worth 99 cents to me.
Without the damage the detail would make it VG. I'm not sure how the damage affects the value. CCN trnds gives values of: G - $15.00, VG - $22.00. Bill
Ooooh, undented, it's better than I thought. I dimly remember (maybe) that I read that describing a damaged coin you should give the grade as if undamaged then note the damage.
yes, grade it properly and note the damage. We are not experts on net grading, nor should we be. (At least I'm not.)
From my exp a dent like that would subtract approx 30-40% of the value of the grade so VG=$22 then vg w/dent $13-15 not a bad buy for a buck
