    I'm sorry, but you missed it. "Members" are ANA members reporting on an ANA site. Hopefully they would be knowledgeable enough and the purpose of X number and Y% is to eliminate the buddy/enemy system. Is it perfect? NO! Can it help? YES! Maybe it would eliminate the supposed or factual bias for the power seller. If nothing else, it would enable the members to feel that they were doing some good.

    Notice fake Svdb seller king_o_coins has pulled all auctions. I got a reply from him on a question I asked. WOW, I wonder where he gets those "S" mintmarks, they look the same on all his key date coins, but the buyers continue to line up and spend big bucks and ghive great feedback.

    He said he will no longer sell fakes. Lets watch. And yes,I rported him on 3 auctions from my seller account.

    Fair enough, same problems apply though - who is going to organize it ? How do you get enough qualified ANA members to volunteer for it ? Who is going to choose them ? Who runs the web site ? And most of all - pay for it ?

    I'm not being negative - I'm being realistic & practical.

    First of all, I am talking something to augment the existing system, not replace it. Like it or not, eBay is the elephant on the block. Getting eBay to be a safer place is going to benefit both the ANA and eBay in the long run.

    Just as a for-instance and I am sure there are other similar and probably vastly different scenarios;

    1. A member sees an auction that is a counterfeit.
    2. He logs onto the ANA site and starts a pole (real or fake) with a link to the auction. I am sure that this can be set up using eBay numbers, sorted numerically, cross referenced, and/or whatever to prevent multiple listing of the same auction and facilitate other members finding a specific auction, type, etc.
    3. Other members can then log in to report the same item or vote real or fake.
    4. If an auction gets X votes at Y% for fake, the existing ANA decision makers decide and report it if it is fake. If this works well, it might even be possible (with high enough numbers and %) that eBay get notified directly

    I am far from as expert on these things, but I cannot see that I am talking anything too expensive. Virtually all the “labor” is volunteer (free). The Cointalk setup has virtually all the requirements for what I am thinking of. The ANA already has a web site. Maybe they can start their own chat line to boot.

    I am sure there are things I am missing, but I cannot believe there is anything that cannot be worked out.

    You are correct, it could be worked out. But I don't think you realize what the cost would be. And since the ANA is running a very large deficit as it is, I seriously doubt they are interetsed in spending thousands more they don't have.
