I just received this one Saturday and I'm stuck on what variety it is. I checked Coneca and Wexler and came up with a maybe on Coneca and nothing on Wexler. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Was that DDO-003? It lloks like the same die crack on the ear. The MM placement is correct. And the die scratches thru IGWT. An earlier die state than the one pictured on Variety vista.
Thanks for the link @Pickin and Grinin . Based on what I'm seeing it's not a DDO-003. My coin has a slightly different rim to feather crack, none of the north/south die cracks across the bust and the R in LIBERTY is polished down. A Mercury Dime guy on another website thinks it may be an undocumented variety.
Well, Doggonnit. I do see now the length is a little different. But how often are you gonna get a die break in the same location from wing to rim? I am Happy to leave it with the guy who studies them, good luck in your search. Are you gonna get it attributed?
Looking further DDO-001 appears to be a closer match for the rim to wing crack with mine being a slightly later die state with the secondary crack. Thing is the mint mark position looks different or the reverse die is an earlier die state than the DDO-001 example.
I am not sure how I missed the die crack on DDO-001, after looking a little further. Does your date show the same halo like doubling to the left side of the numbers. I think they are there, but it's hard to see through the toning.
I missed the die crack on DDO-001 as well, at least the written description I was going off didn't mention it from what I recall. I think it shows the halo effect to the left of the date digits, but like you said, it's tough to see with the toning. The mint mark is still confusing though.
From the pictures it is in the correct position, and placement. The pictures on Variety vista are said to be a mid die state. With more specimens to contrast, that may change. It is hard to believe that such a Die crack can happen within half the life of the Die, I really do like that DDO nice Cherry pick Whats it graded?
Do you think there was a clash involved. Hence the light B broken nose the formation below the cap, top of fore head, and the heavy polish lines?
She's raw and I do believe that at least one clash has been removed and judging by the PL reverse it was recent.
That's a cool overlay Paddy. It reminds me of a '16-P someone posted on another site a while back. There's some pre-polish clashers out there that are crazy.
