I forgot how to clean silver, specifically an ASE which has some red/black stuff on it. I was putting away some ASEs in the US MINT tubes, opened one as it wasn't labeled just to check the date (I put the same date ASEs in the same tubes) and this one was on top. I don't recall putting it in there like that but it was staring back at me. I forgot what to use first to clean them. Just let them soak in (a), then (b). Assistance in reminding me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Acetone is great for gunk, but EZest is the only way I know to remove toning. Better know what you are doing with the latter! (I don't)
A few years ago a would have shrieked at such an occurrence. All silver had to be blast white. Not any more. Toning such as this is no longer an abhorrence to me. I think OP's coin is quite nice and is accumulating a rather pleasing colour. Acetone will do nothing to remove the tarnish. Stronger astringents will only strip the coin of its' luster. Leave it be......
Don’t soak them. Just a 3 second dip in eZest and a 40 second rinse under warm water. Pat dry to get most of the water off and than let it air dry before going back in the tube.
Yeah, but that is risky business for sliders on the verge of AU to UNC. It shows more wear and inperfections getting rid of all of the toning. All toned coins are not equal though. Some need melting down.
Bullion strike ASEs need to grade 69/70 to have much value over…bullion. Grading cost would not be recoverable unless it’s a special finish or mint. If it continues to tone nice it would fetch a nice premium, someday, maybe. I’d put it in the sunlight a few months or in a paper bag. You never know
Agreed but this is a 2011 silver ounce. A quick dip won’t hurt it and since it hasn’t circulated it will be fine.
I have e-Zest and MS70 So I'll just use some ezest, dilute it, and roll some on the spots with a Q-tip until desired results, and rinse rinse rinse. I'm not a fan of toning especially since this was in a US Mint tube of other ASEs which were all fine.
