A buddy of mine found this Trade Dollar in his collection. Forgot he'd acquired it years ago. These are his pix. I'm questioning the authenticity. What say you?
Also looks like it was barely tapped with the dies. "Devices sinking into the fields" is a common giveaway for fakes.
Agreed. You know there are many fakes or replicas that are sought after. I don't think that is one. I nearly bought a contemporary once, It was capped CC in what appeared to be MS. What I caught was the reeding shaper than any proof that I held at the time.
I always wanted a contemporary counterfeit Trade Dollar for my small collection. I could never figure out how to tell if it was for sure contemporary.
