I’ve seen some weird items slabbed.

 

The US Mint is fabricating another scarcity. They didn't do this for the coin collectors that support their premiums. They did it for their billionaire friends. I started buying from the mint in 1959. I quit about 5 years ago.

I'm not interested, I have no one to brag about it with, I'm guaranteed to lose money on it, and I'm not going to support these stupid manufactured rarity stunts by the mint. So there! Now get off my lawn.

At these prices, one would be far better off buying a really nice old cent which has some history to support it. It’s all wrapped up in a little omega privy mark which really means nothing.

Do I see those auctions correctly.
First one sold at $200k then subsequent ones for less and less down to the last one at $48k

 

The trick for the Chinese will be the privy mark. They usually use a real coin to make their copies. I’ve seen them use coins with serious problems, like holed and repaired, for rare stuff. It remains to be seen if they can get a real coin for their copy. The Lincoln cent is super easy.

 

All they need to do is make a die from a real 2025 cent and then punch an omega into the die. That seems easy but I don't know.

 

I don't think fakes will be even a little bit of an issue (other than the ones that sell on ebay for 20-100 that are clearly fake).
All of the omega pennies were certified by the same grader and sold by the same auctioneer (on the same day).
Even if they fake the PCGS holders, it should be incredibly easy to spot the fakes. We have multiple pictures of literally every coin. You wouldn't only need to fake the privy, but all the imperfections as well. At there are a lot of imperfections lol.
