Inherited this from my Grandfather who started collecting in the 1940's. Plucked it out his completed Whitman Lincoln folder. I remember him telling me to pick out the ones with full wheat lines because "they're worth more". He had a good eye, I see why he pulled this from circulation. Now it's ready to pass on to my grandkids!

Can you believe I won it in a contest through a gentleman from CONECA? It was an easy contest too. I don't think he's a member anymore.
Very old and horrible pics....but this is the one he left me. Tough to find in circulation but he did. There was only like 2-3 coins he had to buy - SVDB, 1914D and 22 plain! (I remember him decades ago complaining about all the fake 1922 plains out there.) All others he found searching or traded for in his coin club in the 1960's.
Nice story. Speaking of 1911 and grandparents, that was the year my paternal grandmother was born. Because of that, I chose 1911 for the $5 and $10 Indian type coins in my collection. Cool year.
Yes, that's a tough semi-key. I can imagine them being hard to find in circulation, even back then. A friend of mine dug a 1911-S in the yard of an old Victorian home we were metal detecting in, once. I was jealous, but I did manage to find some cool old tokens and a Victorian brass hotel key fob on that site. This was in North Carolina. I would imagine the odds of finding one (either in circulation or via detecting) would be much better on the West coast than the East coast.
