I was doing some searching the other day and came across this website. If you are looking for some info on the 20 cent piece or just want to do some reading on the coin type I suggest that you bookmark the page for reading and reference. I still haven't been thru all the pages.

I guess I can drop this here... as you may know, PL double dimes are incredibly scarce. 20 cent pieces in general are rare, but they aren't widely collected. NGC has certified 10,536 of them in all grades. Of those, only 17 have earned the PL designation.

So, I present to you the 1876 NGC MS-63PL, Rev. Dr. James G. K. McClure specimen:

Thanks man. Haven't had a chance to take my own photos of it yet which is why I hadn't shown it off... but P&G gave me no other choice ;)

If you research Dr. McClure and his collection, it gets even cooler... he was a big-time collector in the late 1800s and early 1900s. I suspect he probably got this piece directly from the mint. He put his collection in a vault and it went untouched until his heirs re-discovered it in the early 2000s. Heritage had a huge auction in 2016... I bid on this coin and lost! But it came back up at Great Collections in August. I bid aggressively and won this time.

It is entirely probable that I'm the third or fourth owner of this coin since it was minted 150 years ago.

The auction number is visible and it's public knowledge so I have nothing to hide.... I only spent $4162.50 with buyers fee on this piece. Help yourself next time an 1876 comes up.... but I might fight you if it's a different date ;)

So very few twenty cents coins. So costly to complete a set.

Here is one of mine. I have actually bought three on eBay from people listing them as seated quarters. If I remember correctly, I only paid $40 for this one.

Here's mine from my type set. Excluding gold patterns, a 20 Cent pattern is the last one I need to complete a denomination set of patterns from the half cent to the trade dollar. Twenty cent patterns are available but they have gotten extremely expensive.
