Well, I couldn't help but catch the fever after all the discussion about Metal Detecting recently so I decided to do a little "Coin shooting" in the back yard. Here are the results and with the temperature climbing up near 100 today I think I'll call it quits for now, LOL... All items were found between 2"-8" deep. Two nails (one a roofing nail and the other about a 12d), one copper pipe fitting, a pull tab (getting scarcer everyday) and what looks like part of a handgun clip (unknown item), pat of a garden hose fitting, and 1/2 of a Levi Jeans snap.
Ben: TAKE YOUR TIME! And don't worry, the good finds will arrive. It takes more practice and patience than coin collecting.
I really ran to this post when you said shooting. Thought you were like me and tested guns in your back yard. Also, shot at coins to see what would happen. Never a valuable one though and doesn't matter anyway since I'm a lousy shot, usually miss them. My back yard is full of Lead. Wonder what will happen in the future if someone uses a metal detector there.
I found a new use for coins last week related to shooting things http://www.mrbrklyn.com/images/coney_lk_placid_summer_2007/dsc02704.jpg http://www.mrbrklyn.com/images/coney_lk_placid_summer_2007/dsc02709.jpg http://www.mrbrklyn.com/images/coney_lk_placid_summer_2007/dsc02706.jpg http://www.mrbrklyn.com/images/coney_lk_placid_summer_2007/dsc02717.jpg http://www.mrbrklyn.com/images/coney_lk_placid_summer_2007/dsc02719.jpg
I sit corrected. They were unable to hole the coins with the period weapons, but modern technology solved that problem! My favorite episode is still "Cooling a 6-Pack" tho.
