Assembling a 1932-1998 Washington quarter set from "junk" silver and bank rolls

Looks like finding a decently priced Dansco 7140 might be one of the hardest parts of this.

Seems like a fun project to do with my kids. I have a bunch of silver Washingtons and my dad had a bunch in a coffee can that my mom still has.

I have an off-brand (but good quality) album (not Dansco/Whitman/Littleton).

I found a 1953-D quarter in my change today. There's hope for you!

Coincidentally, I found a 1953 cent in change last week.

Believe it or not, dealers are now cracking up the modern silver Proof sets and tossing the quarters into silver junk boxes. When I saw one dealer do it, I thought it was a fluke. Then I saw a veteran dealer do it at a show a couple of weekends ago. It's sad really. The Proof silver quarters are the best looking quarters in any given year.

I don’t want to steal your thread but I was able to get a nice used 7140 (no proofs) off eBay. IMG_2874.jpeg

I think I'd rather have that; not only for the Dansco brand but also because it excludes the proofs (which I don't have much interest in pursuing for this project).

My album is "The Coin Collector" brand. I think I got it from Wizard Coin Supply a while back for ten bucks or less (lists for $19.99 and is on sale for $14.99 now). It was a cheapo but the quality of the album really isn't bad; I'd say it's comparable in quality to a Dansco, Whitman, or Littleton album.

I saw that a lot in the early 2010s when silver was still high from the 2011 spike. It hurt my heart, too - but they struck so many silver proofs, and there probably won't ever be enough demand to make them worth a premium, especially with silver this high.

I consoled myself that they were only mass-produced laser-pebbled "bust enhancement" cameos, and not the good kind of cameo proofs.
