Hey, all Fellow collectors! I come to you today, November 30th ( 25 days til Xmas per @Collecting Nut ) for some advice.
You see, I have a cousin in Florida that I just started talking to via 23 and me website. She reached out on there to me, and we started talking over the phone. She likes coins but is novice collector. She says she likes whatever appeals to her like Silver and Gold of course. She'll have to settle for something else since I'm a little short on the expensive stuff. My question is simple. What should I send her for coins when I send a Christmas card? She like both U.S and World coins. I do have two Ancient coins. Thinking of sending one of those also.. Think she'll get a "kick" out of that. Any more idea? I also have a "bunch" of World Coins that are just sitting. Any comments about re-gifting? Is it right to do that? I thought not since they are coins and not something like clothes. :yack:
    Thoughts, comments, recommendations??
    Thanks all. Carry on! :p

I think that Jefferson nickels are the best for starting a collection. Every date and mint issued is still very much available in circulation. You don't have to start out knowing that you can never finish a set. I found 5 silver in the last two weeks. And, some 38, 39 and a 42 Regular Composition.

Nickels are a good idea. Still a lot of people around here have an interest in the State Quarter and on programs. I would have to think world coins have to be the best if you have some variety and expertise in that area. good luck. james

    This was my thought.
Send reading material and be sure to mention that you would Someday like to have a few pieces of the Atocha if she walks on the beach :p
Did you do the standard background check and confirm your related?
Tape a shiny gold Colored Sacagawea dollar in the card and a book about how to care for coins.:D

Great suggestions so far. Another moderately priced gift would be a Mint or Proof Set of her birth year. And you could send her a roll of JFK Half Dollars along with tips on how to process the roll to look for possible 90%/40% silver types. Sharing knowledge along with a coin can feed the fire.

You have many ways to make an appropriate gift for her…Spark

Anything in particular that she likes outside of coins? I'm thinking themed world coins, with dogs, birds, animals, aquatics, etc. My wife loves the Bahamas coins. Or birth year coins from anywhere/everywhere.

There are many options out that are cool that wouldn't be that expensive. I have a broad ranging collection and I appreciate a good W quarter from 2019 or 2020. I've always liked the Salt River Bay tree design so I bought the .999 silver S Proof version for $16 (a couple years ago.) It looks awesome. A pure silver quarter, bright white. The Tall Grass Prairie is a nice design too. Could send a W and an S proof version. Throw in an ancient. Depends on how much you like her.

Another interesting gift could be a 1964 coin in original mint cello with an ID tag from Philadelphia or Denver. People still selling them cheap. I got a few.

Mint errors seem to draw the attention of most people. Not sure if she’s mentioned them to you. The more common ones abound and are easy to find and affordable. A few years ago I gave my brother an error coin and he loves it. He’s been a collector for almost as long as I have been.
You should be able to pick up a die clash Ben Franklin for her in nice condition at a modest low cost. They are known as Bugs Bunny coins and yes, they are 90% silver.

Good idea. I have to "bugs". One is a 1955 and one a 1956. Probably give her the 1956 to start. ;)

Canadian silver from the George VI / QEII era might be good, they have some nice designs she might not have seen before. A set of denominations? Those big silver dollars are fun and a 12-sided nickel with the beaver is cool too for a new collector.

I would give her some World coins, at my coin club some collectors get excited over them and maybe, they're the only coins they collect. It's cheap and you already have some! :D

What year born? Try to find a few 100/200 years before birth.

How about a Morgan dollar? Maybe a peace dollar? I wouldn't go too overboard.

Per ancients, knowing the history is about the only way to truly appreciate them (though the Totalus Rankium podcast would be very good for a younger audience). Justinian II won the prize for #1 most interesting Roman emperor.
