I think this design would have been more appropriate on a widely used postage stamp. I prefer a more traditional Liberty design.

I din't know if the mint uses lasers to engrave dies but a laser was doing something at 0:22 in sean5150's video. At any rate, laser engraving technology exists and is in use elsewhere

 

Well designed coins sell. Just look at the sales figures for the 2014 Baseball Hall of Fame Coin. PCGS came up with a great marketing idea that caught me hook, line, and sinker. They had Hall of Fame members actually sign the label of the coins they slabbed. NGC kind of blew it with "facsimile" signatures on their slabs. First a disclosure, I'm a baseball fan from way back, my dad used to take me to Yankee stadium. I saw Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris play ball right before my eyes. I like the series so much, I have been collecting as many of the different signed holders as I can find. So far I have 27 of them. If I remember correctly, that coin won the Cody Coin of the Year Award. If you make it right they will buy it.

I think this coin will mimic the Uncirculated Jackie Robinson Gold Coin, the sales will be so low the coin will become very collectable and in a few years bring a nice premium to someone who buys it from the Mint. The Gold coin from the National Park Service Commemorative Set is a very low mintage coin and I consider it a sleeper. I bought the set and hope that it to will bring a nice premium in a few years.

 

I like the above idea a lot! I like the coin, I wouldn't buy it but it's good to show some diversity. I agree that it won't sell very well at all, for obvious reasons. Biggest reason, is most collectors don't like it enough to buy it. Another loss for the US Mint and for most gold coin collectors.

I read that the $100 Gold Coin is going to be a Bi-year series with the silver metals of the gold coin released during the off year. The speculation was that they were going to use different minorities on the coin to represent Lady Liberty. I believe a Hispanic version is next.

I look forward to the Italian version, maybe it'll be the Mona Lisa. Better yet, Sophia Loren.

 

April 6th is just around the corner for release.

I wonder if demand will be better than how the public thought of it when they released the design.

 

Nope. No demand. Zero, zilch, nada. Ok, some but very little at best and 99% of those will be buyers only hoping for a low mintage

 

Well, since we're fiddling with Liberty, why don't we make her a guy for next year? I'm willing for the Mint to use my sculptured face if they want to get in touch with me. No charge.

 

I actually like it except for one thing. That damn rim lettering... it just seems gimmicky and the visible seam lines just make it look cheap and poorly done. If you can't make it clean, don't do it at all.

 

After seeing pictures of the actual coin, it's growing on me. However, for me to buy one at that price, I want a good chance of a coin that goes up in value. Everything I'm seeing is saying this one will go down (at least at first). So it's a no buy for me, for now.

 

What do you think the issue price will be ? With gold at around $1250, my guess is $1595. Too much for me.

 

Anthony de Francisci's Peace Dollar design would be a very nice Miss Liberty, and a great tribute to Maria as well.

 

We know exactly how much it will cost, which is $1640 at current gold spot. Way way overpriced

It's also very close to jumping up $50 in price if gold gets to $1250 which is probably likely.

 

That's probably a pretty accurate guess. I was thinking1600ish myself. Not sure if they have released a pricing chart for it yet or not though

 

I was considering getting it, if the price was right. But I don't think the price is right. I'll move on to getting me a St Gauden or Liberty instead. I love those designs too. The 2009 high relief though seems to be up there in price, I was hoping they would come down with time.
