I lean towards circulated coins, and like ones with character. I recently picked up this 1878 CC from David Kahn, the light areas correspond almost exactly to the remaining mint frost. Guess the grade if you are so inclined.
Decent looking coin. Sorry, I'm not inclined to comment on Photo's for grading at this time. Who's David Kahn anyways?
I'm not comfortable with the position of the mint mark CC, therefore no comment on the grade, good luck.
No guess. I am convinced that grading heavily toned Morgans is sorcery, witchcraft, and one must be a member of a cult to learn the secrets that the TPGs use for grading guidelines. Just a hunch, based on your comment about liking circulated coins, it's not UNC.
AU58. The toning is not awful, but it's not my cuppa tea, either. You're right that it has some character.
Thanks for all the comments and guesses! As noted above, it came from David Kahn, a dealer out of Maryland, who runs a couple of weekly auctions on eBay and is very respected in the biz.
That grade seems to be a little low to me, its for sure at the vey least a 53 or even a 55 in my opinion based on what I see in the photos.
