1909 vdb... Matte Proof?

The markers actually match pretty good.

No, it certainly doesn't, but your profile shows that you joined Thursday and that, rather than lack of interest in other subjects explains your low post count. Hey, we were all new, and we weren't all noobs when we joined. So embrace being new here and welcome to CT.

 

Crescent shaped gouge is there.



Also present is the die scratch from the shoulder to the R in LIBERTY.



There is no question this is a 1909 VDB Proof. The only question is what grade it received.

being the NOOB I am, I've been having trouble doing that!

I do have a set at the PCGS Registry under deefree. (Matte Proof 1909-1916 and Colorless Matte Proof 1909-1916)

I will try to post some pics here though...wish me luck on that!

You're welcome....I LOVE LINCOLNS! I really like the MP Lincolns, just out of my price range so I don't own any. After about 10 years of looking and financial wrangling, I'm still seeking a 1936 proof....it's the only one I'm missing other than the MPL's.

 

I've seen you personally post coins that almost require an electron microscope to be identified as such and such a variety that being said I'm not sure why you're having difficulty with this coin? As far as I can tell the coin posted ITT is a matte proof based off diagnostics matching. Do you really need PCGS to tell you it is a matte proof (we all know how good they can be at that) before believing it?

Very cool! I'm kind of opposite since I don't own a single proof after 1916 except for a 1961 PR65RB that was a suprise gift from Robec. He is such a nice guy!

I started a 2nd registry set with the first MPL coins I bought. The important fact is this is how I became acquainted with Angel Dee's Coins and Collectibles. That was important because owners Andy and Alynne took an active role in helping me. As coins became available in different auctions, from dealers and from their own stock, my needs were always known to them - not just as holes to fill but with coins that harmoniously fit the style I was after. Without their help I honestly don't think the set would be finished.
