I tried photographing this one at least 20 times. Forget it. All my fault with my poor photographic skills, lack of patience, and, well, not my priority. Here is MY "best" photo of this winner: Yep, sucks... So, I just PUNTED and went back to the Seller's pic... @John Anthony Iona Kolophon AR Tetartemorion 530-520 BCE Archaic Apollo Incuse Punch 0.15g 4.5mm- SNG Kayhan 343 PHOTO NUMBER 21... WINNER!!!
Wow that is great detail for such a tiny coin. I wouldn't feel bad about punting. Mr Anthony takes some nice photos
This one had been proving challenging to me these past weeks. I had recently decided to stop relying on natural sunlight for my photographs, and it was proving nearly impossible for me to get satisfactory pics of bronze coins with dark patinas (and either rough or glossy surfaces) using my new indoor lamp-light-only set-up. After numerous frustrating fails - sorry I don't have those pics, I invariably ended up rage-deleting them - I think I finally came up with a lighting arrangement that works. Actually, I don't even know why I wrestled over this one since @John Anthony had already taken impeccable pictures that didn't need improving upon (and that I've not improved upon anyway). Edited to add: this pic below is his... I think as much as I find coin photography a chore, I still want to at least be able to take decent photographs of my coins.
I agree. That's JA's image. I think I may need a second lamp to even the lighting across the surface of the coin.
I don't know if this is the most difficult since I have difficulty with all photos, but these two coins from Birytis are particularly difficult because of the very small flan (c. 8-10mm) and very high relief. I wonder how the engraver did it.
