So I have been looking to submit some slabs to CAC but I want to hear about some of your experiences.
First the dealer here in my state I believe no longer submits, actually I don;t think he is in the coin business any more, so what options are there other than finding someone in an adjacent state to submit. Do you send them the coins and have them send them in or how does it work? I've also heard that you only pay for the slabs that sticker, is that correct as I do not find that stated on there website? How long does it take and how do they ship the coins back to me?

    Thanks

Have you considered using the number of someone with submitting privileges?

Collector members only pay for coins that sticker, dealers pay for everything so if a dealer sends it in you will have to pay for everything. Their turnaround time is almost always 5 business days from when they get it and they ship back registered.

Now as books mentioned a lot of people here have submission privileges if you know anyone that would do it. I realllllllyyyyyyyyy dislike the notion of finding some random dealer in a random state to submit which is what it sounds like you would have to do. There are a couple major dealers that that should be fine doing if they were willing but I would be careful sending off coins randomly without contracts in place.

You can also call CAC and get on their waiting list to try and get privileges yourself.

I have a form to be a collector submitter but it's like a resume and I need references.

Ask around with people you have a decent or good relationship with on this forum or others, most will let someone they know use them as a reference for it

See what you can come up with, and if all roads lead to nowhere, let me know. In regards to your own membership, I can tell you CAC doesn't always contact references and wouldn't worry too much about that part. If you don't have references in the business, just try using what you do have.

As an aside though, there are guys out there claiming to be "authorized dealers" who simply use a collector membership to submit. Perhaps this wouldn't matter to you, and it may not be that big of a deal, but is a form of misrepresentation and if you're going to trust someone with your coins.... just food for thought.

Best you submit through someone else, I think, though make sure they are trustworthy. CAC has had a hold on new membership applications for two years now.

They ask for like 3 numismatic references. I believe it is just a formality for the collector applications

I guess I need to make some friends or relationship on this forum than. I've been a member for years just never had dealings with folks.

I got you on this one. It bugs me when people misrepresent and it's hard to trust someone with your collection from just chatting online. It makes you think that cac ought to have a couple of dealers as a min in every state or loosen up and allow more collector memberships some.

I submitted 5 coins to CAC thru @C-B-D and 4/5 came back stickered. Sold the most expensive coin within a week when I couldn't sell it without the sticker for almost a month. The rest I either kept or held for a while after.

Worth the $ if it stickers.

I don't think that's true. I know a dealer that has got the CAC membership within the last few months.
