Speaking of Flavian expressions and frowns, Titus was no slouch. 6614a.jpg 6614b.jpg

Yes I think they might have overemphasized a tad.

That is a wonderful Titus! The Flavian engravers at Rome were really fond of the 'Roman nose'!

Thanks everyone for the kind comments.

I really love Vespasian's issues struck before he was proclaimed emperor by the senate in Rome ... so this coin is quite special to me!

This thread motivated me to finally photograph my very humble (RPC 1954?) IЄPOY B example. Thanks for the reading recommendation as well, I just started A History of the Jewish War with great interest! VespTetYear2.jpg

Yes, that is RPC 1954. Good photo and lovely portrait.

You will love the Mason book! I've acquired most of what he has written and quite admire his clear and engaging style. His History of the Jewish War will become the standard reference on the topic.

I'm very disappointed that this post has been up for a week without an obligatory Bryan Adams reference. Is there no Canadian pride?

Why I didn't see that one before, I don't know, but it's a very covetable coin you have here @David Atherton
Quiet and determined are the words that come to mind when I see that portrait of Vespasian
