That's certainly a valid criticism, but then, why the hit and run? Why aren't you telling us how you'd handle it?

Hit and run? Maybe you have not read the entire thread. Asked and answered already by several different people. PCGS may be liable to refund the amount the OP paid for the slab, and not a penny more. And nor should they.

It's his property. What does PCGS do about that?

They already deleted the cert number, what else do they need to do?

So does that effectively turn it into a "counterfeit slab"? Seems harsh, UNLESS the OP put some indicia on his form that it was a proof and they were led down the primrose path. Mondays, huh?

Keep playing games. That's what we expect from them when they get one wrong. That's really an endorsement.

Yes. If the OP tries selling as stated on the label.

Here is a screen shot of a PCGS submission form I have. There is no place to mark MS or PR on it. Just a coin number which can be found on PCGS CoinFacts.

Would be fascinating to me whether the OP put an entry in the PCGS COIN NO. field, and if so, which one? If he put the proof one (without about four question marks), his sympathy quotient plummets.

Yeah, I saw that. It was caught about 100 posts back. So just make it so he can't sell it and maybe it will go away.

The "coin #" I see on PCGS CoinFacts is different for proof vs. business strike -- but also for BN, RB and RD.

WOW! I never would have guessed that. When I send in copper to NGC, I want to see what color THEY think it is. ( I have several "RD" coins from NGC that I'd bet they wouldn't think so any more.) I don't care what anyone says, copper tones inside major TPGS plastic, and not just a little, either.

With all due respect, Nathan; if everything must go in PCGS' favor, then what's the point of paying so much for their services? Sure, their grade has value and is certainly worth something, but a guarantee is what's really important. If they can just slide out from any responsibility for such a pitifully blown call it's then meaningless. I'm not suggesting the OP be paid the $40k here, but he rightly deserves something above and beyond the eff you he's thus far gotten. Perhaps PCGS should try to understand that class sells, and gives people another reason to support them whereas classlessness, well, if it keeps up perhaps they'll figure it out...

Would that be AT, then? I'm confused. I wonder what the toning experts would say?

Of course it's bull and "mechanical error" just a convenient excuse, but as long as there are so many people willing to accept paying for one-sided incompetence, I fear there's little reason for them to change.

And how does a company get away with suddenly deleting certification numbers of coins they have authenticated and graded without inspecting the coin? Based on images that may or may not be "the peacock" coin?

    The gender neutral is peafoul.

Would that be when you miss the urinal? I guess that would be peefoul. But the bird is peafowl.

We actually know that they did not enter a snipe bid, since our member did indeed win the auction at $56.
