Anybody jump into this one today? My beautiful wife, Catherine, surprised me with a purchase of three of these. The top prize this time around is a 1792 half disme!! Who the heck wouldn't want a chance at one of these?? I'll update this thread with our loot reveals.
Say What?????? A 1792 half disme?? I have no idea what this is but I would walk over my momma for a 1792 half disme!
But would you take up gambling? Because that's what this is. "Grab bag" or "luck of the draw" offers always make me suspicious, because I almost always don't know that the other party is playing fair. In this case, I trust the other party, but my visceral reaction is still there. I don't want to throw money away gambling, and I really don't want the temptation to keep at it that I'd face if I did win.
Wow! I saw this offering and was way too steep for me. I wish you luck though and will enjoy seeing how you do. Can't imagine winning the half disme.
It would be fun but can't get myself to do it. I will live vicariously through you on this one. @mrweaseluv usually gets in on these also I believe?
I fully agree. I would rather spend my coin funds on getting exactly what I want. It reminds me of an eBay listing I saw once that was for rolls of wheat cents. The seller claimed that one of the ros contained a 1909 svdb.
That is me 95% of the time, I’m buying exactly what I pick out. See, this VaultBox thing, since I’ve started doing it, scratches two itches. I am a gambler and used to frequent casinos quite often, sometimes monthly. It was nothing for me to walk into a casino with the same amount of money that Catherine spent on this release and walk out a few hours later with my pants pockets hanging out, not even a gum wrapper to show for my efforts. Is there a chance I lose money on these three coins? Absolutely. But guess what? I’ve got more than a gum wrapper at the end of the day. A one in three thousand chance to own a coin that Thomas Jefferson carried? Sign me up for those odds any day and three times on a Wednesday! This isn’t for everybody, but I’m just fine with it and it makes it double the fun that Catherine has fun with it, too.
I ordered 3 today for my 70th birthday present. I've bought some in recent series. For the most part I think that I got 60-70% of the value back. That's not to say that I got garbage. A few weeks ago I sold my complete IHC set with Great Collections (Currie Lake Collection). The one thing the VaultBox thing has done is get me coins that I probably wouldn't have bought in quite awhile since I was so focused on completing and upgrading the IHC series. The new stuff has sparked a new interest in other types. Will I buy more in the future? It depends on what I get in a few days.
regretably I slept through this one lol (ok didn't have the extra this month but may have still gotten one if I had not been sick and asleep before they sold out lol)
