I will eventually post all the ancients in my collection as I have time. Now that midterms are over, I can breathe again!

Here are two Tiberius coins in my collection. I bought one and was not happy with it. There are only 2 or 3 coins I purchased that I regret, but this is one. I was not happy with the grainy look, so I bought another one. Then my wife told me she likes the first purchase better! Now what do I do?! I really can't afford to have $800 in two of the same type! I know the ultimate decision is mine, but what coin do you like better? A or B?

    A

Not a fan of the graininess of the first one but the details are much better. I vote A

    B is the only choice.

By far. It is overall the superior example of the two.

In my little world of collecting, the "TI" on this type is essential since it is the abbreviation of the name Tiberius.

Even further reason to keep B is that the chair clearly has straight, plain, un-ornamented legs. That indicates it is the earliest issue, (circa 15-18 AD), and therefore circulated during Jesus' ministry years. SOME of the types with decorated/ornate legs were issued after the Crucifixion -- as late as 37 AD. Your example A is so rough that the exact type of ornamentation on the legs is obscured.

Is there really a question? Why would your wife prefer an inferior coin?

She is not a collector, but she liked the detail of the obverse better. She thought the first one showed more character.
