I've been collecting these myself. I've been interested in Percy Metcalf's work since I bought a 1924 British Empire Exhibition Medal. I'm just starting with the Irish coins, but here's one I picked up recently.

 

That collection is so fabulous, thanks for sharing! Among our collection we have a 1966 10 shilling specimen & the reverse is awesome!

At my age, I still find it incredulous that a booklet of that magnitude, beauty & detail was not highly scrutinized before publishing. The very first line: "Iris" Free State?? Did they not like that particular flower??? Otherwise, it is nicely done & I will look for one myself.

 

Back when I was trying to complete full date sets, Ireland was one of my first targets because it's actually pretty manageable. Most dates between 1928 and 2000 are actually skipped so there aren't a ton of coins needed. I did complete the set except for one or two really rare coins. I don't have photos yet except a few I'm sharing here. I've thought about breaking up the set and selling off most of them but I kind of like them, and I have Irish heritage as well so it makes more sense than a lot of my collections. The farthings are sneaky hard to find besides a few dates that you see pop up most often.

 

Ooops. Spell check must have missed the "h" on the end of Irish. The nice thing is that since I created this, I can easily go back and correct the error. Thanks for pointing it out. Mike. BTW, we are near neighbors. I live north of Fort Worth.

 

You are correct. It's funny how some of the most common coins were hard to find also. That 1939 3 pence with a mintage of 64,000 was hard to find.

 

I always liked the Irish coins very much...except the Euros. I have quite a few myself.

Somewhere, somewhere, I have two-shillings worth of BU 1928 pennies i.e. 24 of the first Irish Free State coins, plus 24 BU ha'pennies, again 1928. I was given them by an Irish colleague at work in the early 70s as he knew I was a numismatist and he had no interest in them at all. An uncle of his had passed them on to his nephew - I can see his face now but I can't recall his name.

I catalogued them all and put them safely away many years ago, and I know they must still be in the house, but heaven only knows where!

 

Many years ago I misplaced some old US colonial coins in my house. I still haven't found them and can't figure out what happened to them.
