The 1866 Act would need an amendment, else, the 2020 Act would conflict if a living person were on a denominated coin, in this case a $1.00 coin.

A token would not violate the 1866 Act because it would not have a denomination.

I think the proposed Trump coin could be construed as “emblematic of the Semiquincentennial” but denominated as legal coinage would be unconstitutional without the correlating amendment.

I stipulate neutrality concerning politics, hopefully this is found acceptable as I have no partisan intent whatsoever, stating only opinion about known facts concerning U.S. coinage…Spark

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Not necessarily - there is a precedent for this. The 1926 Sesquicentennial coin featured Calvin Coolidge, the living current president at the time.

It would be a bad joke if he suffered the same fate of the president on the half dollar. Nearly did happen.

Whether it is or isn't doesn't really matter. If they do mint them you still have the choice to purchase one or not. No big deal.

There would be a terrible amount of bag marks on each coin, not worthy!

I found out about this yesterday.

I'm happy to have CoinTalk as a place where I don't have to deal with political nonsense.

I believe the Coolidge/ Washington half was illegal at the time but they did it anyway. I would rather they just continue presidential dollar series for all of them living or deceased and keep politics out of it.

With the treasury department being so partisan on the issue I find it kind of weird.
