Looks like the “vampire” counterfeit, correct? That’s where my eyes go first on these.

I don't know much about these... but that sorta kinda looks like it may be possibly a fake?

 

To me, the last digit of the date is a different font and the denticles don't seem right, as many are faded out, I guess to show wear. There's lots of entries if you google 1798 US dollar for just about the cost of shipping or less.

 

Scary lookin', I think it came from Sum Yung Gai in China!

Clearly a fake to me. Lots of things wrong with it if you compare with at a real one. Craigslist is even more risky than ebay.

Totally agree! OTOH I'm going to buy two Standing Liberty quarters from a guy for $15.

 

I also thought fake immediately, and the cleaning is a way to hide that.
Even if it is real what is it worth $3000? My spider sense says it is counterfeit.
