Some budget tetradrachms I recently acquired. Even got my first greek silver in a very long time. It may be porous, but as usual, better in hand. The Carinus does not have bronze disease. Wow @Mat, great score. The two potin tets look well struck and centered. Great details (hey, I am an Eagle man!) The AR Seleukid kingdom is a real departure of what I have seen of your collecting style. Nice capture of Philip I to get back into some Greeks.
Sweet additions Mat!. Always nice to get a great silver. The Probus and Carinus tets look very nice and have great patina too.
Nice coins, Greek silver is always nice. A tetradrachm is double nice. Really like the details on the Potin ones.
HEY! I have one of those Carinus Potins also! Roman Empire Carinus ( CE 282-285) Egypt, Alexandria Potin Tetradrachm Dated yr. 2 19 mm x 8.14g Obv: Laureate bust right. Greek Legend - A K M A KAPINOC CEB Rev. Athena seated left holding Nike and Spear. Dated L-B Ref: Emmett 4001 2a
i always dig some tets! i have a pretty nice philip i, my first greek silver coin... SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Philip I Philadelphos, 95-83 BC. Tetradrachm. Antioch. O: Diademed head right. Three nice OP-winners!! (congrats, Mat) Hmmm, I do happen to have a couple of similar close-enough Tet-examples ... => wanna see 'em? Carinus Probus ... congrats again on adding a few more winners to your sweet hoard
I have more than a passing interest in the Alexandrian issues of Probus. I disagree with your attribution of the Probus coin and the description. These eagles face both ways and your description doesn't match your coin. I still have one reverse type missing - the emperor on horseback. http://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=1721 Regards, Martin
A nice group, Mat. I'm always up for seeing coins of Roman Egypt Martin already corrected the Probus attribution (probably a typo on your behalf, or cut & paste of the wrong coin?). At the risk of getting into late RIC-level minutiae, here are all of the eagle variations for Probus. All of mine came from a few very fun group lots. Oh, and most importantly => congrats on shakin' your fear of Bronze Disease!! (allowing bronze back into your coin-life must be a cool feeling, eh?) Uh-oh, is that green dot ... just jokes (relax and congrats again on your cool OP-winners)
Thanks, and you can thank JA for easing me back into Potins. Still not a huge lover of them but will add them when I need to scratch an itch.
